We are approaching the middle of the year, and the chances of the support group surviving to the end of the year are slim.
I am very conscious that this newsletter is heavily focused on fundraising, and am taking this opportunity to highlight just how serious our position is; we have never received regular funding from local council, national government or health. Instead, we have had to rely heavily on the generosity of our members for fundraising and using copious amounts of time to complete long, complicated funding bids. Since we began in 1996, the support we are able to offer has changed dramatically, but the family and child have always remained at the centre of everything we do. We have progressed from monthly support group meetings and occasional family fun events to a fully formed service that offers individualised support to every family who comes to us for help. Demand for training (such as understanding ADHD, 1-2-3 Magic, whytry? and behaviour management) has hugely increased, however, services and schools do not have the budget to pay full cost and we are having to subsidise just so we can get the message out there. We are also attending TAC, Child in need and school meetings at a cost to ourselves and this has been a huge drain on our resources. WE HAVE NOW REACHED CRISIS LEVEL. From the outset of the support group, it has been my passion and aspiration to raise awareness of the condition of ADHD and it's affect on individual lives and whole families. Whilst we have seen some success in reducing the stigma of ADHD, it continues to be an uphill struggle as we fight misrepresentation from some areas of the media, the public and some professional support services. We have also seen a massive increase in the numbers of families and professionals who are seeking help from us and this includes supporting families living with various other behavioural conditions. The increase in demand means that, although we're happy to do this, it is also a further drain on resources. We are a unique group of committed and informed volunteers who are devoted to the cause and need of the families we support. In order to continue to offer this, we now need to ask all of YOU to help raise awareness and share in the responsibility of keeping this group going. I would like to personally thank each and every one of you who have made a commitment to raising funds so far but there is still an awful lot more to be done and it needs to be done quickly! So i am asking for your help and, in the immortal words of Bob Geldoff **** ** **** ******* ***** YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEND US A DONATION, PLEASE FOLLOW THIS LINK:
